RAM stands for random access memory. It is a removal module installed on the motherboard of a computer. One of functions of memory is to make sure that as your computer initializes programs, and you can also do something called multitasking efficiently. Multitasking is the process of opening one or more programs on your computer and switching between them. It is time saving but requires large amounts of resources. It is called random because it is volatile meaning when once you computer is shut down what ever data or information that was strored in the cache will be lost.

The bottom line is: some applications require more resources; while other applications will perform adequately with a minimum amount of memory installed, an increased amount of RAM will help your computer overall performance.
